Today I had a moment of clarity. More than fifty percent of my clients nationally are over 50 and all asking me the same question.
How do I start working less without losing clients or income?
This is a massive issue for the profession at large because you all tell me the same three things…
1)I am working too long
2)I am not earning enough
3)My people can’t or don’t want to take over from me
DEMOTIVATORS ARE IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND:
Many of you are absolutely flat out and not necessarily thoroughly enjoying yourselves.
However, some of you are seriously PUMPED and excited, as you are crystal clear on the one decision EVERY Accountant must not ignore.
From my own 13 year stint, I know first hand how frustrating being self-employed can be at times and especially if when you’re not clear on your primary objective.
HOW OR WHEN DO YOU WANT TO GO / GET OUT?
Many of you keep telling us you’re too busy at present to give this CRITICAL agenda item the necessary time and attention it duly requires.
More scarily is that you’re also telling us this is not a new trend and so I am concerned you may not appreciate what happens when you actually leave this too late!
WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR FIRM?
I realize you are so busy and this issue will not go away so I have created a FREE tool for you that which I’m proud of because it only takes you 60 seconds to ensure you clarify this.
It’s amazing how much more enjoyable your practice can be when you know exactly what you want to achieve and some confidence that it can be achieved because you have a plan to do so etc.
DO YOU HAVE AN EXIT STRATEGY?
If you do not have a clear picture of ALL your exit strategy/succession options and preferences, this tool(link here)will help you work out which options are most likely to suit you personally as well as give you a better appreciation of what else you may not have considered.
TOO MUCH TO HANDLE?
If determining your ideal exit strategy is a bit overwhelming, perhaps it’s time to talk to us?
There are often many more options available to most principals than they tend to identify themselves because they are often too busy etc.
GETTING OFF THE CHEESE WHEEL:
There are key ingredients just like a recipe that I have learned and if you apply them I believe this formula for success applies to anyone and everyone in the profession
